Stress is so bad for the heart. When we are stressed our heart beats out an irregular pattern where it spikes up and down in a non-coherent rhythm. These spikes are extremely hard on the heart.
Look at the image here. This is a picture of a person’s heart rhythms. On the left it shows heart rhythms of a person experiencing frustration, or stress. Notice the irregular pattern of the heartbeat.
Now look at the right side of the image that says appreciation. Notice that the heart rhythms are smooth and regular. This is called heart coherence and this heart rhythm pattern is much easier on your heart. Plus, when you are in this state of coherence, you feel emotionally peaceful and grounded and your mind slows down and becomes clearer too.
To Relieve Stress Occupy Your Heart
The heart-based practices I recommend to relieve stress are the following:

I’ve had to learn how to relieve stress just like everyone else. And I’ve tried alot of different things over the years to keep a healthy heart. About eight years ago I discovered heart rhythm practices. I immediately and instinctively knew that this was what I needed and wanted to focus on because I could feel the benefits right away.
The first time I tried heart breathing I felt peace, clarity, deep relaxation, and an openness in my heart which felt really wonderful. I knew I had found a path that would benefit me in so many ways. And now, eight years later, I can say that I still feel that way. Symptoms of Heart Stress
Stress is a disease of the heart and mind. Heart disease is the top killer of both men and women in most of the world. This is clear evidence that we have not been giving our hearts the attention and care that it needs.
If we look at the symptoms of society’s ills we see the following:
- – fear, distrust, isolation
- – anxiety, depression, panic disorder
- – Abuse of drugs and alcohol
- – ADHD, Insomnia
- – Eating disorders, obesity, diabetes
At the heart of all of this is the heart! By not being in touch with our hearts and not knowing how to interact with our hearts, we suffer greatly. But fortunately, there’s a great and simple solution to this. And it is beating in the middle of your chest right now!
The Key to Relieving Stress is the Heart
If you want to know how to relieve stress you are going to need to connect with your own heart. And don’t be afraid, it will be the greatest journey of your life.
When you begin to occupy your heart with the practices I am sharing with you, your life will begin to open up like a flower opening to the sun. Your heart is aching to open and feel and heal. Everyone has suffered wounds to the heart and this causes us all great stress at times. It is a normal part of being human. It happens to all of us throughout our lives.
There are three aspects of heart to understand to learn how to relieve stress:
- The physical heart
- The emotional, energetic heart
- The spiritual heart
The physical heart creates the flow of blood and establishes a rhythm for the entire body (and mind). It produces hormones like norepinephrine, dopamine, and oxytocin. It creates the body’s magnetic field. It sends nourishment to every cell in the body with every beat.
The physical heart doesn’t beat at the same speed. It is constantly speeding up and slowing down. This is a function of the nervous system (parasympathetic and sympathetic). This is referred to as heart rate variability.
The emotional, energetic heart is multi-dimensional. It has width, height and depth, a forward dimension and also an inner dimension.
The spiritual heart is the home of your Self. It is the source of peace and harmony in your relationships. It holds the power for your purpose. It constantly renews your Self.
You can relieve stress right now and have peace of mind by:
- Bringing your attention into your body,
- Becoming aware of your emotional heart,
- Experiencing a power in your heart,
- Shifting the sense of who you really are and,
- Connecting with a sense of purpose for your life.
